Twitter

In last week’s USA TODAY, the Life section was dominated by a headline about Twitter. “Glued to your gadget?” the subtext asked. “You might be losing your human link.” Ironic, isn’t it? All of this stuff we call the social media (MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter) may actually be hindering us from engaging in meaningful relationships. There are more studies that suggest Twitter may have actual moral consequences in our relationships to each other. When life becomes something we observe rather than live, we lose the ability to empathize with others and thus, we are less likely to be moved to ……



The Pace of Life

There are no windows on submarines. OK, there may be windows on subs they use for tourists, but on a serious submarine, there are no windows. So, how does a sub “see”? A sub uses sonar – sounds waves that are sent out and bounce back of a objects around the sub. A well trained crew can tell from how the sound bounces back what is in front of the sub. There is just one problem with sonar – sometimes you can go too fast and the sound of the water rushing over the antennae overwhelms the subtle pings of ……



Reflecting on Easter

The day after Easter always brings a down time for reflection. The energy required to adequately celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ leaves me a little spent in the days following. I can’t help but go back in my mind and try to understand what it must have been like for the first believers in the first few hours after the news of Jesus being alive got back to them. Were they scared? Confused? Excited? Stunned? Probably all of the above and a lot more – the resurrection doesn’t fit in any concept we have of reality. Easter makes you ……
